2002 Gujarat Riots Probe: SC relieves SIT Chief R K Raghavan


The Supreme Court on Thursday allowed the request of Special Investigation Team (SIT ) Chief R K Raghavan to be relieved from duty of heading the team probing 2002 Gujarat riots cases.

A bench comprising Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justices D Y Chandrachud and S K Kaul considered the submission of senior advocate Harish Salve in this regard.
Appreciating work done by the SIT, the court also allowed another SIT member K Venkatesam to leave the team.

The Apex Court has asked A K Malhotra, another member of the court-appointed SIT to oversee functioning of the team. It also asked him to continue filing quarterly status report about the progress in the cases in the apex court.
