In a shocking development this afternoon, at least 25 CRPF Jawans lost their lives in an encounter with the Maoists in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. 6 others were also injured in the encounter. They are said to be critical.
The Maoists also looted arms and ammunition from the jawans before fleeing the spot. The injured have been airlifted to Raipur.
The encounter took place in Chintagupha forest on Odisha-Chhattisgarh border. The CRPF jawans of 74 battalion were deployed to oversee road construction work when they came under attack from the red rebels. Around 300 Maoists were involved in the attack. They also used IED to trigger blasts.
Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh CM Dr. Raman Singh has called a high level emergency meeting to discuss the situation.
