China building new road in PoK to spark security concerns for India!

In a recent development, satellite images show that China is building a new road in the ‘illegally’ occupied Kashmir region near Siachen Glacier. The path is being constructed in the Shaksgam Valley. Notably, this region comes under the Pakistan administration, PoK, which was given up to China in 1963.

Notably, the road comes out from one part of the Highway G219 in Xinjiang of China. Further, it disappears into the mountain near Indira Col in Siachen, India;s northernmost point. This area appears to be of high strategic importance for India. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has visited this area twice since the month of March.

The Eauropean Space Agency revealed Satellite images of the area, showing the difference between July 2022 and August 2023. Upon looking at the pictures, a basic trail of the road being built by China can be seen.

Indian Army’s Lt Gen Rakesh Sharma said, “This road is totally illegal and India must register its diplomatic protest with the Chinese.”

Indo-Tibetian frontier observer, @NatureDesai on X (formerly Twitter), flagged the construction of the new road by China. Posting on X, he wrote, “In a significant development, China road has breached the border at Aghil Pass (4805 m) and entered the lower Shaksgam valley of Kashmir, India, with the road-head now less than 30 miles from Siachen.” Take a look:

The path under construction comes under the Trans-Karakoram tract. It is noteworthy mentioning that historically, this area is a part of Kashmir and claimed by India. Spread over 5300 sq. kilometers, the part of land was captured by Pakistan. Later in 1963, the area was handed over to China via a signed agreement, unrecognized by India.
