OSRTC dismisses driver for drunken driving
Bhubaneswar: Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) has dismissed a driver for allegedly driving a passenger bus under the influence of alcohol. The driver identified as Chintamani Pradhan reportedly slept in the bus going to Phulbani from Boudh in an intoxicated condition on April 18.
OSRTC officials said that the careless act of the driver not only led to the disruption of bus service on the route but also endangered lives of the passengers. “The corporation will never tolerate any act putting the lives of passengers under risk. We also warn other drivers not to take the wheels under the influence of alcohol,” said a corporation official.
The corporation is operating more than 440 buses in more than 200 routes including bus service to other states such as Bengal and Andhra Pradesh. Thousands of passengers depend on the bus service to reach remote destinations of districts such as Korapaut, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri and Kalahandi.
