Six drown while bathing after Holi celebrations in Odisha
Bhubaneswar: Holi celebration was marred at separate places of the state following the death of six persons including a minor boy today, said sources.
In the first such incident, a youth named Niranjan Paramik of Berada panchayat in Jagatpur area under Jajpur Sadar police limits of district died after drowning while taking bath in the Kharasrota river after playing Holi this afternoon. On being informed about the mishap, an ODRAF team arrived at the site and fished out his body.
The second such incident took place at Sitakund waterfall in Similipal of Mayurbhanj district. A native of Balasore district who was identified as Akshaya Sharma died after drowning in the waterfall while taking bath after Holi celebration.
In another incident, a Class I student of Thiaberana village under Lahunipada police limits in Bonai sub-division of Sundargarh district drowned in the village pond while he was bathing along with some locals after the celebration of the festival of colours. The deceased minor student was identified as Bishnu Gadasara.
In Cuttack, a Plus Two student of Kandarpur College on the outskirts of the city had gone with his friends to take a bath in Kathjodi river after playing Holi. Unfortunately, the pupil identified as Satish Kumar Sahu of Gopalpur village slipped into the deep waters and drowned. After getting information about Sahu’s drowning a fire brigade rushed to the spot and recovered his body.
One Ashutosh Bisi of Gurujabhata village drowned while bathing in Tel river in Titlagarh of Balangir district.
In the sixth such drowning case, a youth from Chandrasekharpur area in Bhubaneswar, whose identity was not immediately known, died after drowning in the Puri Canal near Barang on the outskirts of the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. He died while bathing in the canal post the Holi celebration.
