Timely step averts major train fire at Berhampur Railway Station

Berhampur: Alert passengers and timely step of railway authorities averted a major train fire at Berahampur Railway Station and saved hundreds of lives on Thursday.

As per the report, sparks erupted in Villupuram-Kharagpur Express minutes after its arrival at the railway station at around 10.35 AM this morning. The incident came to fore after one RPF staff deployed at the station detected smokes billowing out from S3 Coach of the train and informed the station authorities.

“I had been deployed at the Platform No.2 when the Villupuram-Kharagpur train arrived at the station and smokes were seen coming out from the battery box of the S3 Coach. I took the matter to the notice of the concerned authorities immediately. Later, as a safety precaution all the passengers who were boarding the coach were evacuated and the faulty battery was removed with the help of technical staff with no delay,” informed Bhimsen Mohanty, RPF official.
