Berhampur: The private bus operators’ strike, which was launched here yesterday, was today observed across Ganjam district in Odisha in protest against temporary relocation of the present bus stand in Berhampur city.
Commuters had a harrowing time in Ganjam as private buses remained off the roads across the district due to the strike called by Ganjam District Private Bus Operators’ Association.
The strike was called following a notice of the Berhampur Development Authority (BeDA) to private bus owners to operate from the newly built Modern Bus Terminal at Haladiapadar on the outskirts of the city.
According to BeDA order, this shifting is for two months for renovation and repair work of the ‘new bus stand’ within the city limits.
However, OSRTC introduced as many as 26 buses across the district and 14 buses connecting major routes in the state like Cuttack, Gajapati, Rayagada, Phulbani etc. in view of the strike.
