Nuapada: In a suspected case of failed love, a young couple committed suicide by hanging themselves to death at Pawartala village under Dharambandha police limits in Nuapada district today.
The deceased have been identified as Siba Majhi (21) and Rashida Majhi (18) of the same village.
The suicide came to light after some locals spotted the couple hanging from a tree near a cropland this morning. They immediately called up their families to intimate the incident.
Dharambandha police later reached the spot and rushed the bodies for autopsy.
While the cause behind the couple’s extreme step is yet to be ascertained, some locals have alleged their families’ refusal of the relationship behind it.
“We have detained the parents of the deceased couple and interrogating them on the incident,” said Dillip Lakra, IIC, Dharambandha Police Station.
