Cuttack: Chauliaganj police today arrested a 29-year-old for allegedly cheating several people by impersonating himself as an Additional SP of Crime Branch.
Police today arrested the accused Kartik Routray, a native of Naygarh for cheating and demanding money from several people.
Police have seized 17 ATM cards, 21 SIM cards, number of bank passbooks and a gold chain from the accused.
“The accused used to call people randomly and identify himself as an Additional SP of Crime Branch. He later used to demand money through account transfer threatening them to implicate in police cases,” said a police official.
Police said Routray, a school dropout was involved in similar cases in Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur and Bhadrak. “He has been arrested several times in past. We are further verifying his antecedents,’ added the police official.
