Body Of RBI General Manager Found Hanging In Hotel Room In Odisha

Jajpur: The body of a general manager working with the Guwahati regional branch of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was found hanging in a hotel room in Chandikhol under Barchana police limits in the district last night.

Police said the deceased Ashish Ranjan Samal, a native of Naraharipur was also the Banking Ombudsman for the North Eastern States. “He had checked in at the hotel on Thursday afternoon. His family members failed to contact him and somehow ascertained that his last mobile location was at the hotel in Chandikhol. Subsequently, they informed us and we went to the hotel,” said a police official.

Police found the hotel room of being locked from inside and later broke open the door. The body of Samal was found hanging in the ceiling fan with the help of a bedsheet.

Police said that preliminary investigation revealed Samal of committing suicide. “A case of unnatural death has been registered and we have sent the body for postmortem to ascertain the cause of death,’ added the police official.
