Fire breaks out in Bank of India Pailipada branch in Ganjam

Bhanjanagar: In yet another bank fire in the state, property worth lakhs were gutted after a blaze broke out in the building housing Bank of India (BOI) Pailipada branch in Ganjam district last night.

As per the report, flames erupted in the cash room of the bank at around 3 am last night and locals spotted smokes billowing out from the branch. Smelling something fishy, they immediately called up police and fire brigade team from Bhanjanagar.

However, till the fire tenders reached the spot and brought the flames under control, assets worth lakhs including computers, electronic goods and cash along with several other important documents had completely been reduced to ashes.

While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, an electric short circuit is being suspected behind the incident.

Notably, the mishap took place while the bank remained off business due to a nationwide two-day strike by a number of banking unions on Tuesday and Wednesday.
