Election Commission provides training to District Collectors

Bhubaneswar: Election Commission is providing 2-day training to Collectors from 30 districts of Odisha and other officers from State Election Commission at Gopabandhu Academy here starting from Monday.

The prime purpose of this certification training program is to prepare the officials for upcoming General elections so that they could be conducted in a free and fair manner.

Also participating in this certification training program will be District Election Officers of 12 Lok Sabha zones, Returning Officers and a few other administrative officers.

On the first day, i.e. today the officers will be trained in the management of current Voter’s list, handling of polling booth, sensitive areas, deployment of forces, Model Code of conduct, and Election spending monitoring.

The Election Commission notified that on successful completion of the training program, the officers will have to undergo a test too. The questions may be based on election process, code of conduct, nomination procedures, and the responsibilities of the returning officer.

The Commission firmly believes that this training program will be extremely beneficial and lead to a free and fair election process.

After successful completion of the certification training program, the Collectors will in turn officials at respective districts on VVPAT machines, EVMs, and regarding spreading of information amongst masses.

Most importantly, the officers will be trained using latest IT applications which will further help the Collectors and State Election Commission officers in conducting free and fair elections.

Officers on learning new technologies and new rules for election will surely help the officers in conducting free and fair General Elections.
