Train Ticket in Odia from Utkal Diwas
Bhubaneswar: People from Odisha who had problem with reading English and Hindi languages on the train tickets and who did not know if they had the right tickets vis-a-vis their intended originating and destination Stations as well as Class of travel and train type are correct or not, can now read the same in Odia script as the railways is all set to issue the unreserved tickets in Odia language apart from English and Hindi from the Utkal Diwas (Odisha Diwas). This was informed by the East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Friday.
The ECoR in a statement said, “A decision has been taken for Train Tickets to be made available in the vernacular languages, apart from Hindi and English. In view of this, Railways has prepared all Station Names of Indian Railways in Odia script which will now be implemented in 317 Stations in Odisha for the Stations under East Coast Railway, South Eastern Railway & South East Central Railway jurisdictions.”
According to the statement, with technical support from CRIS, Kolkata, the Database of more than 8 thousand Station Names in Odia Script has been prepared by East Coast Railway as a passenger-friendly initiative. Steps have been taken to print the Station Name in Odia script to match with the vernacular name of the Station as per the local language of that particular area of the country.
In Digital India, Railways is the largest service provider in the country and strives to promote vernacular language – the Language of the People. A decision has been taken to start this service from April 1, 2019.
