Thank you: Odisha police to all women on International Women’s Day

Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of the International Women’s Day (IWD), Odisha Police thanked all women for their immense contribution and service to the society.

Wishing the women on its Twitter handle, the state police said, “Officer, Astronaut, CEO, Guardian, Sister, Wife, Mother, we cannot even try listing everything that you, so effortlessly are. Thank you!” Besides, it posted a picture with a famous Bollywood dialogue ‘woh stree hai kuch bhi kar sakti hai’ from the Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor starrer ‘Stree’ which meant that she is a woman, she can do anything.

The International Women’s Day is being celebrated today across the globe with the theme – #BalanceforBetter, meant to promote a future in which both men and women are equal in professional status, media perception, the positions they hold in government and more. The IWD is celebrated on March 8 every year. It is a focal point in the movement for women’s rights.

After the Socialist Party of America organized a Women’s Day on February 28, 1909, in New York, the 1910 International Socialist Woman’s Conference suggested a Women’s Day be held annually. After women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917, March 8 became a national holiday there. The day was then predominantly celebrated by the socialist movement and communist countries until it was adopted in 1975 by the United Nations.
