ECoR Crackdowns On Ticketless Passengers; Rs 8.21 Cr Fine Collected

Bhubaneswar: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has collected a fine of Rs. 8.21 crore from ticketless passengers between April 1, 2018- March 31, 2019.

According to the figures issued by the ECoR, the regional railway zone has collected Rs. 22.2 crore from 4, 98, 437 passengers with general tickets travelling in reserved compartments.

Similarly, it also collected a penalty of Rs 1.10 crore from passengers carrying unbooked or excess pieces of luggage.

“With this, the East Coast Railway has collected Rs 31.5 crore from these passengers. It has happened due to a large number of ticket checking staff deployed at major and sensitive stations to detect persons travelling without a ticket or with improper tickets, a senior official said.

An ECoR spokesperson said ticket checking drives helped in curbing leakage of revenue from passenger business. In the coming days, the railway zone will strengthen ticket checking activities all over ECoR jurisdiction, informed the spokesperson.
