Puri: The Shankaracharya of Puri’s Gobardhan Peeth Swami Nischalalanda Saraswati on Wednesday said that from the spiritual and religious perspective, the management of the Srimandir should remain in his charge.
His statement comes in wake of the Supreme Court’s proposal to hand over the management of the Puri Jagannath temple to the Shankaracharya of the Gobardhan Peeth.
The Seer lashed out at the state government and said that the senior bureaucrats appointed as the chief administrators of the Shri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) have no idea regarding the rituals and traditions of the Srimandir and their misgovernance has lead to a lot of chaos in the temple administration.
Noteworthy, the Supreme Court, while addressing a PIL on April 8 over the mismanagement and exploitation of devotees at the Puri Srimandir, had raised questions regarding the role of governmental authorities in the management of the temple.
After a thorough observation, the apex court had proposed that reign of the temple administration should be entrusted to devotees and religious heads, after expressing over the failure of government authorities in managing temple affairs.
