BJD revokes expulsion order on Prafulla Ghadai

Bhubaneswar: BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday revoked the expulsion order on veteran politician and former Finance Minister Prafulla Ghadai, ahead of the simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly Elections in Odisha from April 11.

Ghadai was expelled from the ruling party in September 2014 after he questioned the leadership of Naveen Patnaik in an interview published in leading Odia daily Sambad.

Ghadai had represented the Sukinda Assembly seat for consecutive five terms since 1990. He had served as Finance Minister in Naveen Patnaik government.

The Chief Minister dropped Ghadei from the cabinet in August 2012 for his alleged involvement in the failed coup attempt by Pyari Mohan Mohapatra on May 29, 2012.

Later, the senior leader was denied ticket in the 2014 elections. However, his son Pritiranjan Ghadai was given a BJD ticket, who won in the 2014 elections from the Sukinda Assembly segment.
