Bhubaneswar: Aadhaar cards are not mandatory for school admissions in Odisha, said a letter issued by the government earlier today.

The same has been clearly mentioned in a letter issued by the Commissioner-cum-secretary School and Mass Education Department Aswathy S. to the District Education Officers (DEOs).

The letter said, “the academic season for this year has already been started and admission is also continuing in some schools as per need. It was instructed earlier that the admission of students should be hassle free and smooth.

The letter further emphasized, “In no case, parents shall face inconvenience during the admission of their children.”

“In this regard, it has been brought to the notice of the undersigned that in some schools authorities insisting the parents to submit Aadhaar card for admission of children in different classes,” further read the letter.

“It is clarified that the children must be allowed to take admission in schools with or without Aadhaar card. It is also instructed that after admission, students may be facilitated for obtaining Aadhaar cards by coordinating with various offices of the district,” clarified the letter.

Aadhaar is NOT mandatory or a pre-requisite for admission in school. “Further deviation from this instruction will be seriously viewed,” warned the letter.
