Madhya Pradesh MLA Kamleshwar Dodiyar won poll with borrowed money, reaches assembly on ‘rented bike’

Kamleshwar Dodiyar, the sole non-BJP, non-Congress MLA in Madhya Pradesh, made a unique entry to the Vidhan Sabha in Bhopal on a rented bike.

Bhopal: Kamleshwar Dodiyar, the sole non-BJP, non-Congress MLA in Madhya Pradesh, made a unique entry to the Vidhan Sabha in Bhopal, riding a Hero Splendor after a 350-kilometer journey from his constituency, Sailana. Hailing from a family of daily wage workers, Dodiyar’s journey to become an MLA involved hard work and struggle.

In contrast to traditional political campaigns, Dodiyar fought the election on a tight budget. He had to rely on crowdfunding and even borrowed money from others. Facing financial constraints, he managed to raise a total of Rs 2.38 lakh for his campaign. Despite the financial changes, Dodiyar’s approach focused on building trust with the people by addressing their problems rather than resorting to the traditional tactic of distributing money and liquor.

Kamleshwar Dodiyar is a leader of the Bharatiya Adivasi Party. He expressed his determination to bring positive changes to his community and constituency. He plans to continue using the bike, now adorned with an MLA sticker. Inspired by former US President Barack Obama, Dodiyar dreams of becoming a minister to serve his constituents.

In the recent assembly election, Dodiyar defeated Congress’s HArsh Vijay Gehlot by over 4,600 votes. His political journey began in 2018 when he contested as an independent candidate. This was followed by an unsuccessful bid in the Lok Sabha polls.
