40 killed as TSRTC bus falls into gorge in Telangana, CM announces Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia

Hyderabad: In a ghastly tragedy, 40 people including 20 women and seven children were killed and more than 20 others were severely injured after a Telangana State Road Transport Corp (TSRTC) bus fell off Kondagattu Ghat Road in Telangana’s Jagtial district today.

The bus, carrying more than 60 passengers, met with the accident while returning from Anjaneya Swamy temple atop Kondagattu Hills, about 190 km from Hyderabad.

Sources said that the accident took place when the driver reportedly lost control at the speed breaker of the vehicle.

Senior officials along with the locals rushed to the scene and launched rescue operations.

The injured were admitted to a government-run hospital in Jagtial. Some of the critically injured were shifted to hospitals in Karimnagar and Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao expressed his deep grief over the accident and announced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia each for the families of the dead.

The death toll is likely to go up as most of the injured people are stated to be critical.
