Bhubaneswar: In wake of a series of road accidents on flyovers in the capital city, District Collector BS Poonia issued a directive on Monday making it mandatory for bike riders to wear helmets while commuting on the flyover between Rasulgarh and Khandagiri square.

An official notification in this regard has also been issued by Khordha  Collector’s Office yesterday.

“As per the recommendation of the District Road Safety Committee, I do hereby order to restrict bike riding without helmet on the flyover as provided under Section-115 of MV Act 1998 for a period from June 18, 2019 to July 17, 2019,” District Collector BS Poonia said in the notification.

Two-wheeler riders commuting on the flyovers will be under CCTV surveillance. Action will be taken against violators who are found driving without helmet, the notification added.
