Man becomes friend with former air force official, loots Rs 35 lakh on pretext of help

The cyber police has arrested a man on charges of looting a former Indian Air Force (IAF) official to the tune of Rs 35 lakh after becoming friend with him and on the pretext to help him.

Bhubaneswar: The cyber police has arrested a man on charges of looting a former Indian Air Force (IAF) official to the tune of Rs 35 lakh after becoming friend with him and on the pretext to help him.

Acting on the complaint filed on October 19 by Kishore Chandra Gantayat, a former officer of the Indian Air Force, the cyber police initiated an investigation. Kishore had alleged that some unknown person had withdrawn Rs 35 lakh from his bank account.

In course of probe, police arrested one Santosh Sahu of Pattamundai area of Kendrapara district and found out that the accused met Kishore at a hospital in July this year. The duo exchanged their phone numbers and gradually became friends.

During their conversation, Kishore informed Santosh about his loss in the online gaming. Following which, Santosh assured to help him and get his money back by identifying himself as a Data Scientist.

Santosh also cleverly managed to get access of Kishore’s phone and bank details and transferred Rs 35 lakh from his account to two different accounts (one is of Bangalore and the other is of Assam). Later, he brought the money to his bank account.

Apart from arresting Santosh and forwarding him to the court, police seized Rs 6 lakh, two cheque books, one passbook and three mobile phones from his possession. Further probe is underway.
