Lawyers launch strike in Sambalpur over Permanent HC bench demand

Sambalpur: By giving a fresh lease of life to the demand of setting up of a permanent High Court bench in Western Odisha, the Sambalpur District Bar Association today launched a sit-in protest for the same here.

The lawyers shun work and staged dharna at the Nelson Mandela Chhak which started from the morning. All the courts in the district also remained closed following the strike and denizens had tough time to complete their pending legal works.

The agitating lawyers have also warned to close down all government offices in the district tomorrow in case the government continues to be apathetic towards their demand. As per the decision, rounds of protests would be held before the office of district Collector, RDC, Registrar, Election Commission and RTO tomorrow.

The lawyers have decided to continue with the strike till September 20, whereas the sit-in protest will take place from 10 am to 5 pm everyday.
