Cyclone Michaung to form over BoB tomorrow, Heavy rainfall in Southern Odisha
IMD has predicted that cyclone Michaung will not have any impact on Odisha except for rainfall in some places of southern parts of the state.
Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted that the active depression over the Bay of Bengal will intensify into a cyclone tomorrow on Sunday. The probable cyclone has been named as Michaung.
As per the weather report, the depression is moving in the north-west direction at a speed of 9 km per hour. It will turn into deep depression while moving towards the west-northwest direction today. Then it will further intensify into a cyclone over the southwest Bay of Bengal tomorrow.
Upon formation, Cyclone Michaung will move in North west direction and reach Andhra Pradesh and the adjacent North Tamil Nadu coast by December 4th and is likely to make landfall on the December 5th. It will cross the land midway between Nellore and Machalipatnam on the southern Andhra Pradesh coast. At the time of landfall, the wind speed will remain at 80 to 90 km per hour. Furthermore, The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted that the wind speed may reach 100 km.
The Meteorological Department has also reported that the cyclone will not have any impact on Odisha. However, some places of the southern Odisha will likely receive rainfall due to the Cyclone.
Light to moderate rain may occur at one or two places in southern and coastal districts today. IMD has issued a yellow warning for 5 districts of the state including Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam for tomorrow. The amount of rain will increase on December 5th. So, an orange warning has been issued for heavy to very heavy rain for 5 districts including Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam on December 5. Similarly, the weather department has given yellow warning to 6 districts for the same day.
On the other hand, the effects of winter in the state will remain minimal this year. Night temperatures are likely to be above normal during this winter season. As a result, there is a possibility that the severity of winter will be less between December and February, said the Meteorological Department.
