Huge Python brings traffic to standstill as it crosses the road in Kochi; Watch viral video

The traffic at the the busy Seaport-Airport Road in Kochi’s Kalamassery was brought to a halt on Sunday night because of a huge python. According to reports, a nearly two-metre-long Indian rock  python was spotted while crossing the busy road of Seaport-Airport near the KSEB office around 11.10pm in Kochi. Seeing the huge Python, the passersby stopped their vehicles and waited on both the sides to let the massive reptile pass to the other side safely.

The onlooker took pictures and videos of the Python while it slowly made its way across the busy road. Now, the video of the incident has gone viral on the internet.

The viral video shows, the python slithering through the road as the passersby people are waiting patiently for it to finish its journey. The snake was moving really slow so it took around four to five minutes to cross the road. The people also guarded the road to prevent the snake from being run over by any vehicle. Some people were seen standing in the middle of the road.  At last the python reaches the other end of the road and disappears into the bushes on the side of the road.

The New Indian Express reported that in response to the incident, a forest department official told that they receive calls to rescue pythons from the city and surrounding areas two or three times a week. As Kochi has vast marshy land, pythons find it easy to survive by feeding on rodents that are available in plenty here. The officer further added that this type of python-spotting has become a regular incident in Kochi over the past three or four years.

The video was shared on Twitter by a man named Rajesh Abraham with users id @pendown with the caption, ” Scene at Kochi’s Seaport-Airport road Kakkanad signal last night.”

While another commented, “Nice to see the snake being allowed to pass and not run over it. Roadkill of wildlife is a major issue. Just wish people don’t honk constantly but that’s wishful thinking for India. Regardless, nice to see.”
