Cuttack: In a shocking incident in the prestigious Ravenshaw University here on Sunday, an Assistant Professor of Chemistry department was put under suspension and a probe was ordered against him after a girl student accused him of sexual harassment.
According to sources, Ravenshaw University vice-Chancellor Prakash Chandra Sarangi issued a suspension order against the accused Assistant Professor Alekh Kumar Sutar with immediate effect today and barred him from entering the Chemistry department and taking classes. Sutar was also told to report at the university registrar’s office till further orders taking into account the fact that an inquiry is underway against him by the institute’s sexual harassment committee.
Earlier in the day, the university authorities handed over the case to the committee after the complainant girl met the VC and lodged a complaint against Sutar for allegedly soliciting sexual favours from her.
