Police Bust Burglar Gang in Bhubaneswar, Four Arrested

Bhubaneswar: Police today busted a gang of burglars involved in a series of burglaries in the state capital in the last few months. Police have recovered two cars, four motorcycles and gold ornaments weighing 150 grams from the four accused.

The accused have been identified as Ganesh Purty (31), S.K Saddam Hussein (26), Balaram Nayak (22) and Pardip Sahu (38). Police have also seized a pistol with three rounds of live ammunition and other valuables.

Police said that the gang was targeting locked houses and used to decamp with all valuables including vehicles. “The gang was involved in around seven burglary cases in Airfield, Khandagiri and Tamando area. During the investigation we could identify the gang members and subsequently laid a trap to nab them red-handed,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anup Kumar Sahoo.

Later police finalised a deal to purchase a four-wheeler worth Rs 40 lakh looted by the bang for Rs 2 lakh. “Our men posed as customers and busted the gang. The Ford Endeavour vehicle was also recovered. Subsequently, we recovered other valuables including a Maruti swift car and four other two-wheelers,” added Sahu.

Further investigation revealed Purty of having around a dozen of cases pending against him at various police stations in the state capital. “Hussein is also a veteran criminal and was involved in a number of criminal cases in Bhubaneswar and Puri. Further investigation is continuing to ascertain the involvement of the gang members in similar crimes,’ said a police official.
