Odisha Police to use Laptops, Mobile devices for investigative work

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police has decided to scale up computerisation of Police Station work under the Criminal Tracking and Networking System (CCTNS). The project is being implemented under the national e-governance initiative at a cost of Rs 61 crore.

DGP RP Sharma said, ” CCTNS is like core banking. All Police Station processes have to migrate online. The hardware and software backbone have been put in place and the focus is now on increasing use in terms of data entry and retrieval.”

“We are now planning to move beyond intranet to internet for scaling up the system so that investigation officers can use laptops, tabs and smart phones for easily accessing the database and generating reports,” said Sharma.

Among others, Santosh Kumar Upadhyay, ADG, CID and Sudhanshu Sarangi , Director of the SCRB and Nodal officer of the CCTNS project attended the review meeting.

Currently, as many as 589 of 612 Police Stations are connected online to the State Data Centre at Bhubaneswar and all FIRs are being drawn through the computer system.
