204 Odia migrant labourers rescued from Bengaluru

Titilagarh: A joint team of Balangir and Nuapada labour department officials has rescued at least 204 Odia migrant labourers from Bengaluru of Karnataka yesterday.

According to reports, the labours had been trafficked to Bengaluru from various parts of Odisha including Balangir, Nuapada, Sonepur and Bargarh with the promise of good jobs and handsome salary by a local broker and later engaged in brick kilns there.

After their rescue, the labourers have narrated their ordeal back in Bengaluru, where they had to work under unhealthy work conditions. Sometimes, the sick labourers among them had to work without any complaint in the fear of punishment in the hands of the employer.

Labour Department officials have launched a probe and hoped that the broker involved in trafficking will be nabbed soon.
