Locals beat elderly to death in Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: An elderly man was beaten to death by the locals in Lecture colony behind Jharsuguda’s District Magistrate’s residence in the town.

The deceased have been identified as Kailash Meher (60), a butcher in the lecture colony area of the town.

According to sources, Kailash was attacked and beaten with sticks by some residents of that area in front of his house after exchange of heated words between them. He was rescued by his family and was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital in critical condition. However, he succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.

The family of the deceased has filed a written complaint about the matter in Jharsuguda police station. Based on the complaint, police have reached the spot and initiated a probe into the matter.
