Bhubaneswar: Normal life was thrown out of gear in several parts of the state as heavy rain continued lashing different districts including the state capital Bhubaneswar starting from the morning on Wednesday.

Residents faced a tough time in the capital city as rainwater submerged parts of Jaydev Vihar, Acharya Vihar and Behera Sahi in Nayapalli due to water logging and left the National Highway passing right in front of the ISKCON temple submerged under knee-deep water as well.

Traffic movement was badly affected at several key locations in the city including the Master Canteen Square, Vani Vihar as well as Old Town area following the heavy downpour.

Similarly, traffic snarls were caused in the Millennium City Cuttack as stagnant rain water prevented vehicles from moving at Link Road, Badambadi Bus Stand, Khatbin Sahi, Haripur, and Kazi Bazar areas.

A high-level meeting was held at the district Collector’s office in the presence of Barabati-Cuttack MLA Debasish Samantray and several key officials of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), Jaica and PHD to discuss the situation arising out of heavy rain and water logging in the city.

Much to the dismay of the tourists, the Sun Temple at Konark in Puri district remained inaccessible for visitors for the second consecutive day today as rain water entered into its North and South entrance.

Meanwhile, the IMD regional centre located at Bhubaneswar has predicted more rain in Odisha in the next 24 hours triggered by a cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal and South Bangladesh which it said has intensified into a low pressure area.
