Fire safety inspection conducted at shopping malls in BBSR

Bhubaneswar: In view of the recent fire incident in the city, fire officials conducted simultaneous inspection in various shopping malls here on Saturday.

Ten teams of the Fire Services Department reportedly conducted inspection at different shopping malls to check if the buildings have enough exit routes, exit signage boards, alternate evacuation plans and fire safety equipment.

Civil Defence Director, Bijay Kumar Sharma while briefing the newsmen more about the fire safety inspection informed most of of the shopping malls do not have adequate exit signage to lead the occupants to places of safety in case of any emergency. Notice will be issued to eight malls for flouting guidelines. They will be asked to fulfill the shortcomings within a period of specific time period, he added.

Legal action will be taken in case of non-compliance with the guidelines.

On January 4, a massive fire broke out at the Venus Daily Market in Damana area in the city which gutted property worth lakhs.
