Blot on Khaki: Police ASI arrested by Vigilance while taking bribe in Angul

Angul: In yet another incident earning bad name for ‘Khaki’, Vigilance sleuths have arrested an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) in the district today while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a person to settle a case.

The deceased has been identified as Gajendra Behera, ASI, Tabadol Out Post under Thakuragada Police Station.

As per the report, Behera had demanded Rs 5000 bribe from one Jagannath Behera of a nearby village to settle a case pending against the latter’s son a few days ago. Finding him unable to pay the amount Jagannath had took the matter to the notice of Vigilance Department latter.

Based on Jagannath’s complaint a Vigilance team headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Pradeep Pradhan laid a trap this morning and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant from his office.
