Bargarh Dhanu Jatra to begin from January 15

The world famous Dhanu Jatra in Baragarh, which depicts the story of Lord krishna’s victory over the evil king Kansa, will be held from January 15, 2024.

Bargarh: The world famous Dhanu Jatra in Baragarh, which depicts the story of Lord krishna’s victory over the evil king Kansa, will be held from January 15, 2024. The 11-day annual event will conclude on January 25, 2024.

The date of the Dhanu Jatra, which is world’s largest open-air theatre, was decided during a meeting of the Bargarh Collector Monisha Banerjee with Dhanu Yatra committee members today.

Decision has been taken by the district administration, Dhanu Yatra committee and other organizations to celebrate the annual festival smoothly and peacefully.

Notably, the Dhanu Yatra, depicts the mythological episode involving the killing of King Kansa in the hands of his nephew Lord Krishna, is held every year from Pausa Shukla Panchami to Pausa Purnima with great pomp and show, grace and grandeur.

During the event, which started 70 years back on January 12, 1948 and has turned to be a distinguished festival with the passing of the time, the Bargarh town is treated as ‘Mathura,’ the Zeera River as ‘Yamuna’ and Ambapali village on the other side of the river as ‘Gopapura.’

A huge crowd from different parts of the State and even the country flock to Bargarh Town to witness the annual festival.
