Balasore man sentenced to 20 years of Rigorous Imprisonment for kidnapping and raping minor girl
POCSO court in Balasore district has given a 20-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a man found guilty of kidnapping and raping a minor girl.
Balasore: A Special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court in Balasore district of Odisha, has handed down a 20-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to a man found guilty of kidnapping and raping a minor girl.
Judge Ranjan Kumar Sutar presided over the case and additionally imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the convict. Failure to pay this fine will result in an extended jail term of two years.
The case emerged when the father of the 15-year-old survivor lodged a complaint with the police in September of the previous year, accusing the man of kidnapping and sexually assaulting his daughter. Special Public Prosecutor Pranab Panda represented the prosecution in the case.
Subsequently, the accused was arrested and charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act. The court has also ordered the District Legal Services Authority to provide Rs 4 lakh as compensation to the survivor.
