4 family members killed in Ganjam: 5 accused arrested

Ganjam: As many as five persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of four brothers over a minor altercation between two rival groups at Pitala Chhak under Hinjili police station in Ganjam district on March 22.

The arrested accused people have been identified as Amiya Kumar Swain (36), Bahan Behera (28), Dipu Sethi (19), Chitrasen Sethi (19), and Santosh Swain (23). All of them are from Ramchandrapur village under the Hinjili police limits.

Notably, the two rivalry groups had an altercation over the passing of objectionable comments in public which escalated to a clash between the youths.

As a result, Shambhu, Panda, Raja, and Chandan were murdered and one person from the attacking group sustained injuries during the clash. The injured has been admitted to Berhampur Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati (MKCG) hospital for immediate treatment.

On getting the information, the local police arrived at the spot and took charge of the situation. The bodies were recovered and the cops detained two accused from the attacking group. A probe has been initiated into the matter.

During the investigation, clues and the weapons of offense were seized from the spot with the assistance of the scientific team and witnesses were examined. Besides the weapons of offense and blood-stained apparels of accused and deceased persons, police have also seized one Honda Activa, and one Yamaha Fascino.
