San Francisco-bound Air India flight diverted to Russia over technical glitch,ferry flight from Mumbai to leave

Air India will operate an ferry aircraft from Magadan to San Francisco on June 7, 2023 carrying all passengers

New-Delhi: An Air India flight from India to San Francisco was diverted due to a technical glitch with one of the plane’s engines and has landed safely in Russia’s Magadan airport, an Air India official said on Tuesday.

In a statement, Air India said that the Delhi-San Francisco flight AI173, carrying 216 passengers and 16 crew, developed a technical glitch in of its engines. All passengers are reportedly safe and are being taken care of at Magadan airport in Russia.

The statement read, “Given the infrastructural limitations around the remote airport, we can confirm that all the passengers were eventually moved to a make shift accommodation, after making sincere attempts to accomodate passengers in hotels locally with the help of local government authorities.”

Air India will operate an ferry aircraft from Magadan to San Francisco on June 7, 2023 carrying all passengers and crew of AI173 who are presently accommodated in local hotels in Magadan. The flight will carry food and other essentials for the passengers. All of us at Air India are concerned about the passengers and staff and are making all efforts possible to operate the ferry flight as soon as possible, read the statement.
