Prez Murmu, PM Modi and ministers express grief over passengers’ death in Andhra Pradesh train accident

President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other ministers have expressed grief over the loss the lives in Andhra Pradesh train accident.

Vizianagaram: In a heart-wrenching incident, a passenger train accident between Alamanda and Kantakapalle section in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh has left 13 people dead and over 50 others injured. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, sending shockwaves throughout the region.

Condoling the loss of lives, President Droupadi Murmu tweeted, “Anguished that the derailment of a passenger train in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh caused loss of lives. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”


At the same time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wasted no time in taking stock of the situation and promptly reached out to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to assess the extent of the tragedy. Authorities are working tirelessly to provide all possible assistance to those affected by the incident.

PM Modi expressed his deep condolences to the bereaved families and offered his prayers for the swift recovery of the injured. Furthermore, in a significant gesture, he announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased individual, while those injured will receive Rs. 50,000.

Following the mishap, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw tweeted, “Rescue operations are underway. All passengers shifted. PM Narendra Modi ji reviewed the situation. Spoke to the CM of Andhra Pradesh, state govt and railway teams are working in close coordination.

Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik has expressed deep grief over the death of some passengers in a train accident between Kantakapali and Almonda Station. He tweeted, “CM @Naveen_Odisha has expressed deep grief over the death of some passengers in the #trainaccident between Kantakapalle and Alamanda in #AndhraPradesh. CM also conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved families and wished speedy recovery of the injured. CM has directed the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) and Collectors of Rayagada and Koraput to extend immediate help in rescue and relief operations.”

The tragic incident involved two coaches of the Visakhapatnam-Palasa Passenger train and the locomotive of the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada passenger train derailing. The exact cause of the derailment is currently under investigation, and authorities are working diligently to ensure the safety of passengers and restore normal rail operations.
