BJP’s Pragya Singh Thakur calls Nathuram Godse a ‘Patriot’

Bhopal: In yet another controversial statement, BJP’s Bhopal Lok Sabha seat candidate and Malegaon blast accused Pragya Singh Thakur on Thursday called Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse a “patriot”.

Responding to a question on actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan’s comments that Godse was the “first terrorist of free India”, Thakur said, “Nathuram Godse ek deshbhakt the, hain aur rahenge (Nathuram Godse was a patriot, is a patriot, and will always remain one).”

News Agency ANI published Thakur’s statement in its Twitter handle.

After backlash, Thakur apologised for her controversial statements soon after the BJP had asked her to tender a public apology for her remarks terming Nathuram Godse as a patriot.

This is not the first time that Thakur had made controversial statements.  Last month, the BJP leader said former Mumbai ATS chief Hemant Karkare had died during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks because of her “curse”.

Thakur had also invited the ire of the Election Commission in April this year for her remark on the Babri Masjid demolition.
