5 killed in landslide and flood at Raigad of Maharashtra

Raigad: Atleast five people have lost their lives in the landslides that occurred in Raigad district of Maharashtra which was caused by non-stop rains, informed the District Collector Nidhi Chaudhary.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been informed, as authorities continue to attempt headway in the disaster rescue operation, she added.

“The local police rescued 15 people so far. At least 30 people are still trapped inside. Rain has washed away the road to Talai village, which is causing problems,” further added Chaudhary.

Reports said that seven naval rescue teams departed by road for deployment to Ratnagiri and Raigad districts on July 22 from Mumbai.

It is to be noted that as four landslides have been reported in the district which have led to road blocks.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. “Assured all possible support from the Centre to mitigate the situation. Praying for everyone’s safety and well-being,” the PM tweeted.

On the other hand, seven people have sustained injuries and three died after a building collapsed in Govandi area of Mumbai. The Mumbai police is yet to gather more details regarding the incident.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts for several regions in the state that are set to receive heavy rainfall in the next three days.
