Dubai: Dubai Police has announced plans to deploy fully electric, self-driving, AI-powered patrol cars with crime detection capabilities. The prototype of this high-tech patrol car was revealed during the five-day GITEX Global 2023 event held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, commencing on October 16.

Captioned as “Dubai Police Boost Residential Security with Self-Driving Patrols Equipped with 360-Degree Cameras and Facial Recognition Technology,” the patrol car is a significant advancement in law enforcement technology.

The primary objective of these AI-powered patrols is to enhance security coverage, particularly within residential zones. The patrol vehicles boast an impressive battery life of up to 15 hours and can achieve speeds ranging from 5 to 7 kilometers per hour.

Featuring an advanced camera system with 360-degree capture capability, the vehicle is equipped with state-of-the-art AI technology. This technology will enable the vehicle to detect criminal behavior, recognize faces, and read car license plates. This integration of AI is a vital step towards proactive crime prevention.

In addition to crime detection capabilities, the patrol cars are equipped with direct communication technologies. This will enable real-time communication with the Command and Control Center at the Dubai Police’s General Operations Department. Lt Rashid bin Haidar, representing the Dubai Police’s General Department of Administrative Affairs, highlighted the inclusion of an onboard drone in the patrol car. This drone can access areas inaccessible to the vehicle and maintain direct wireless communication with the patrol once deployed.
