Rs 64 Cr earmarked to be spent in next 5 years for Simlipal Biosphere development Bhubaneswar: Odisha government on Saturday earmarked Rs 64 crores to be spent in the next five years for the development of Simlipal Tiger and Biosphere Reserve.

Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi chaired the meeting of the Biosphere Reserve Management Council at the secretariat and cleared the proposal.

The meeting also approved a comprehensive management action plan that was prepared keeping in mind the infrastructure and manpower requirement.

“Today we had a managing council meeting of the Simipal Biosphere. A five-year comprehensive plan was approved. Our annual plan of operation (APO) for 2017-18 was also approved. The monitoring report, our last year’s activities, was also placed and approved,” said Harish Kumar Vashist, Field Director, Similapal, while speaking to reporter after the meeting.

“Our main problem was that of smooth flow of funds. Previously, it used to be funded by Central Government. Now it is 60:40 i.e. 60% central share while 40% state share. Fund flow was constraint. Now we have complied with all the formalities. Hence, it’s expected that there would be no problem in fund flow now,” he added.
