The shocking incident unfolded as Phil Smith returned home from a month-long trip, seeking to replenish his supplies with a 15,000 euro worth of groceries through the convenience of online shopping.
As Smith proceeded to unload his order in the kitchen, the bags accidentally dropped in the hallway, revealing an unimaginable and repugnant surprise. Describing the moment, he expressed, “It is disgusting. There are no other words.” The bags contained human feces and diarrhoea, leaving Smith utterly shocked and sickened by the grotesque discovery.
Smith contacted the supermarket, urging them to collect the contaminated food bags promptly. Despite his distress, he emphasized that he was not seeking compensation but merely wanted acknowledgment of the horrifying incident. Subsequently, he was offered a refund, which he accepted.
“I told them at the time I don’t want a replacement and I wanted them to just pick it up. Over the past few days, they have just been flippant with me. I just want a refund and am not interested in compensation. If I am offered anything, it will go to an animal charity,” Smith said.
In response to the alarming situation, the local council has been notified, and a health inspector is expected to investigate the matter at the Hyndburn store. Meanwhile, the supermarket chain, Iceland, has chosen not to comment on the incident, stating that an internal investigation is currently underway.
