Elon Musk slams WhatsApp as untrustworthy! App blames Google pixel

Elon Musk recently slammed WhatsApp and said that the app cannot be trusted after a Twitter employee mentioned a privacy issue.

Elon Musk recently slammed WhatsApp and said that the app cannot be trusted after a Twitter employee mentioned a privacy issue relating to microphone on the micro blogging platform.

Twitter engineer Foad Dabiri recently shared image which showed that the app’s microphone was continuously running in the background, even when not in use.

The engineer tweeted a screenshot from the Privacy Dashboard on his Android device, which revealed how frequently the app accessed his microphone and camera.

Sharing the screenshot, he tweeted, “WhatsApp has been using the microphone in the background, while I was asleep and since I woke up at 6 a.m. (and that’s just a part of the timeline!) What’s going on?,” he tweeted.

Later, Elon Musk retweeted the post on his profile on May 9, saying “WhatsApp cannot be trusted”.

WhatsApp responded to the tweet and replied on its Twitter page that the problem was caused by an Android-related issue rather than inappropriate microphone access by the messaging app.

“Over the last 24 hours, we have been in touch  with a Twitter engineer who posted an issue with his Pixel phone and WhatsApp. We believe this is a bug on Android that mis-attributes information in their Privacy Dashboard and have asked Google to investigate and remediate,” the company said.

The also said that they give full control over the access of the microphone to users. If needed they use it after getting users permission. They use it generally when getting a ca;ll or video call or making a voice note and video.  These communications are also end-to-end encrypted so the pp cannot hear them.
