Villagers thrash forest official after jumbo tramples man in Cuttack

Cuttack: Tension ran high in Haridapashi village under Tigiria police limits in Cuttack district today morning and irate locals thrashed a forest official mercilessly after a wild elephant trampled a man to death.

The deceased has been identified as Kalia Behera.

As per the report, Behera had gone to attend nature’s call in a farmland near the village when the wild jumbo which had sneaked into the village last night pounced on him. After lifting with its trunk the jumbo slammed him on the ground.

The attack was so severe that the body of the victim was separated into two parts resulting in his death on the spot.

Angry residents staged a protest in the village post the incident and blamed forest officials for the incident.

Later, when a forest team from Athagarh-Tigiria Forest Division rushed to the spot, the irate mob detained and attacked Ranger Rabindra Nayak and tore his uniform.

Tension was prevailing at the spot till this report was being filed.
