STF seizes more than 1 kg brown sugar in Khurda, 1 smuggler arrested

Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF), Bhubaneswar of the Odisha police arrested one smuggler and seized 1 Kg 43 grams of brown sugar from him following a raid on NH-16 near Tangi in Khurda on Thursday. The arrested smugglers has been identified as Safikul Sk, son of Late Golam Sk. of Mirzapur, Poliapara (Paschimpara) under Beldanga police limits in West Bengal’s Mursidabad.

On the basis of intelligence input against illegal trade of Narcotic Drugs, a raid was conducted by team of STF, BBSR on NH-16 near Tangi today and seized the huge quantity of drugs. During the raid other incriminating materials were recovered and seized from his possession. The cost of the seized contraband will be more than Rs 1 crore.

The arrested accused person could not produce any valid authority in support of possession of such contraband materials. Hence, he has been apprehended and will be forwarded to the court of Spl. Judge cum District & Sessions Judge, Cuttack.

A case has been filed in this connection under section 21(c)/29 NDPS Act, 1985. During preliminary investigation interstate ramification has been established and drug peddlers have been identified. Steps is being taken to nab other involved interstate drug peddlers in the case.

Since 2020, STF in the special drive against narcotic drugs has seized more than 41 Kg of Brown Sugar/Heroin and more than 86 quintals 81 kg (86.81) of Ganja/Marijuna and arrested more than 100 drug dealers/peddlers.
