Excise Dept seizes 2.4 kg brown sugar in Balasore, 3 arrested

Balasore: In a major drug haul, the Jaleswar Excise Department has seized 2 kg 400 grams in Balasore district on Tuesday and three drug peddlers have been arrested in this connection.

Based on a reliable information, the Jaleswar Excise Department and police conducted a joint raid in Jhadeswarpur under Jaleswar police limits in the district. They seized the huge amount of drug from the spot and apprehended three peddlers.

The worth of the seized brown sugar is estimated to be Rs 2.5 crore, said reports.

The cops have initiated a further investigation into the matter to ascertain the source location of all the illegal drug business in the State.

It is pertinent to mention that the Commissionerate of Police in Odisha has seized about 10 kg of brown sugar during the first 10 month (till Saturday) of the current year, 2021. The seizure of the contraband made by the Commissionerate of Police is the highest in any police district of Odisha in one year.

In Bhubaneswar, under Operation White Spider which was launched on August 15, 2021. “Apart from taking strong action against such illegal drugs trade, we are also aiming at rehabilitating the people arrested in such cases with an objective of bringing an end to the vicious cycle of drug peddling in the twin city,” said Commissioner of Police Saumendra Priyadarshi.
