Hirakud dam opens two gates, water being discharged through 24 gates

Due to incessant rain in the upstream of Mahanadi,the Hirakud Dam authorities opened two more sluice gates to release the excess flood water

Sambalpur: Due to incessant rain in the upstream of Mahanadi,the Hirakud Dam authorities opened two more sluice gates to release the excess flood water on Saturday. Currently, the excess water is being discharged through 24 gates.

The dam authorities informed,  16 gates were opened on the left side while water is being released through eight gates on the right side.

Yesterday, the dam authorities opened six (6) more sluice gates to release the flood waters.

A cyclone is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal during the first week of October. International meteorologist of AccuWeather, Jason Nicholls has tweeted about the possibility of cyclone during the first week of October.

As per his predictions, a low pressure area is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal by the end of September. This storm is likely to intensify into a cyclone in October. There lies a possibility of disturbance in the Bay of Bengal during the first week of October. This prediction aligns with favourable conditions in the region, as mentioned by Jason Nicholls.
