Heavy rain triggers flood-like situation in Rayagada, trains cancelled

Rayagada: Flood-like situation in Rayagada district has further worsened since last night due to heavy rain, which kept on lashing several parts of the district for last two days.

As per the report, all four rivers namely Nagabali, Bansadhara, Jhanjabati and Kalyani have registered an increase in the water level triggering flood situation in at least 8 blocks of the district.

In the wake of a possible flood, the district administration has vacated around 3107 people of 1191 families from low lying areas of Bansadhara river like Gudari, Gumuda, Limapadar and Gunupur. Water is flowing above the danger mark in Bansadhara near Gunupur.

Train service has also been affected badly near Ambadola after rainwater washed away the tracks. Raipur-Visakhapatnam-Raipur passenger, Sambalpur-Koraput-Sambalpur passenger and Sambalpur-Junagarh Road-Sambalpur passenger trains have been cancelled following the situation.

The administration has also engaged 3 boats in relief operation in the affected areas and providing cooked food at 21 places so far.

Similarly, 23 medical teams have been put on reserve to tackle any kind of eventuality arising out of the possible flood. 76 quintals of dry food have also been stored for the purpose.
