Group clash over ‘chanda’collection leaves youth critical in Balasore

Balasore: A youth sustained critical injury in a group clash which erupted over fee collection for ‘Raja’ celebration in Kantabania village under Sahadevkhunta police limits in Balasore district today.

The injured has been identified as Dilip Behera of the same village.

The clash took place while the Raja fervour had gripped the entire village this morning and a group of youths, of which the victim was a member, started asking for Rs 500 ‘chanda’ per head to organize an event. Immediately another group in the village opposed the act and a heated argument took place between the two sides.

As the argument took an ugly turn later, members of the other group attacked the victim with a sharp weapon. He bled profusely and turned critical on the spot.

Some locals rushed the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment and later shifted SCB Medical in Cuttack due to deteriorating condition.
